Joint Clinical Trial Conducted with Kookmin University Research Team
LCD Harmful Blue Light Proportion 70~80%
OLED Only 36%
LG Display's organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV panels have been proven to be effective displays for maintaining viewers' sleep patterns.
LG Display announced on the 22nd that it recently completed a clinical trial to verify the "impact of TV panels on sleep" in collaboration with the Department of Electronic Engineering at Kookmin University.

The trial involved 40 adult men and women who watched the same content on OLED TVs and liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs for 2 hours during nighttime over a period of two weeks, after which the secretion levels of melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone, were measured.
As a result, the group watching LCD TVs showed a 2.7% decrease in melatonin secretion compared to before viewing, whereas the group watching OLED TVs showed an 8.1% increase.
Harmful blue light emitted from displays is known to interfere with melatonin production and can cause sleep disorders. Generally, LCD panels continuously emit strong backlight, resulting in a harmful blue light proportion of 70-80%, whereas LG Display's OLED TV panels have a self-emissive structure where each element emits light without backlight, resulting in only 36% harmful blue light, which is analyzed to help normal sleep activity.
Professor Changwook Kim of Kookmin University, who conducted the research, stated, "OLED TVs not only minimize the negative impact on melatonin secretion during viewing but also activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which induces comfort, confirming their effectiveness in maintaining users' healthy sleep patterns."
Yoon Sooyoung, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Vice President of LG Display, emphasized, "We will introduce products and technologies that provide differentiated customer value based on OLED, which offers not only the best picture quality but also safety for the human body."
