The 17th World Taekwondo Culture Expo Opening Ceremony Successfully Held

Over 3,000 Athletes from 27 Countries Participating... Until the 23rd

The opening ceremony of the "17th World Taekwondo Culture Expo," which will promote Taekwondo and Taekwondowon to the world, was held successfully on the 20th at the Taekwondowon T1 Stadium in Muju-gun, Jeonbuk.


At the opening ceremony, Governor Kim Kwan-young, Superintendent of Education Seo Geo-seok, National Assemblyman Ahn Ho-young, Chairman of the Provincial Council Moon Seung-woo, Mayor of Jeonju Woo Beom-gi, Muju County Governor Hwang In-hong, Organizing Committee Chairman Lee Byung-ha, Acting Chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation Lee Jong-gap, and overseas instructors were present.


The "17th World Taekwondo Culture Expo" will be held over six days from the 18th to the 23rd. It is hosted and organized by the World Taekwondo Culture Expo Organizing Committee, with support from Jeonbuk Province, Muju County, the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, and the Korea Taekwondo Association.

During the festival, more than 3,000 athletes from 27 countries around the world will participate, showcasing national Taekwondo demonstration team performances, poomsae and sparring competitions, poomsae seminars, and Taekwondo sparring camps.


Athletes and officials who completed registration on the 18th will participate in demonstration competitions and Taekwondo seminars on the 19th, followed by the opening ceremony on the 20th, and then poomsae competitions, global Taekwondo sparring camps, Taekwondowon experiences, and cultural experiences.


They will also engage in cultural explorations at Jeonju Hanok Village, Jinan Maisan, and Muju Wine Cave until the 22nd. Various side events, including a midsummer night concert, have been prepared for everyone to enjoy together.


Meanwhile, the World Taekwondo Culture Expo, now in its 17th year, unites Taekwondo practitioners worldwide through Taekwondo as a medium. Utilizing the Taekwondo cultural brand, it also aims to revitalize the local economy. It is held annually in Muju-gun, Jeonbuk. This year's slogan is "Taekwondo, the origin of Hallyu! Connecting to the world through the Taekwondo Culture Expo," making it a festival for Taekwondo practitioners worldwide, including the general public.


Governor Kim Kwan-young stated, "Jeonbuk Autonomous Province is promoting the establishment of the International Taekwondo Academy as the sacred ground of Taekwondo. We will continue to hold international Taekwondo competitions and support various contents to further revitalize Taekwondo," adding, "I hope that Taekwondo, the origin of Hallyu, will connect to the world through the Expo."
