20s YouTuber's 36-Week Abortion Video Controversy
"Doesn't Seem Manipulated... Devastating"
A professor of obstetrics and gynecology at a university hospital criticized a YouTuber who claimed to have undergone an abortion surgery at 36 weeks of pregnancy, calling it an "act of murder."
On the 17th, Hong Soon-chul, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Korea University Anam Hospital, appeared on YTN Radio and said, "I watched the video and was very shocked," adding, "It is shocking to see our society where a 36-week-old fetus can be killed so guiltlessly." He continued, "What is even more shocking is that the mother filmed a video seemingly without any guilt or burden while aborting a 36-week-old fetus. That aspect was actually more shocking."
Regarding the possibility of the YouTube video being manipulated, Professor Hong said, "It doesn't seem to be manipulated," and added, "When you see the obstetrics and gynecology director who viewed the ultrasound saying 'This child should be born,' it doesn't appear to be fabricated content."
About the Ministry of Health and Welfare requesting a police investigation into the YouTuber and the doctor who performed the surgery on charges of infanticide, Professor Hong said, "I also consider this almost murder." He pointed out, "The patient is a problem, but the people around who did not stop it and the medical staff who assisted with the abortion are all problematic," and added, "The fact that such an incident happened in the Republic of Korea is a very tragic and sorrowful reality."
He further stated, "From the video, it seems a cesarean section was performed," and explained, "The baby born would survive if left alone. It means the baby can live if wrapped only in a blanket to maintain temperature. Therefore, it is highly likely to be murder." He emphasized, "Using the term 'abortion' for a baby who would survive if left alone ultimately means the baby was killed, and regardless of the reason, that must be called murder."
Earlier, a YouTuber identified as a woman in her 20s, known as A, stirred controversy by uploading a vlog about abortion on YouTube on the 27th of last month. She claimed, "I underwent abortion surgery at 36 weeks of pregnancy." After severe public criticism, A recently deleted all her videos.
However, the authenticity of the video has not yet been confirmed. The Ministry of Health and Welfare referred to a precedent where a doctor who aborted a 34-week fetus was sentenced to three years in prison and requested a police investigation into A and the doctor who performed the surgery on charges of murder.
