312 Grade Diesel Vehicles, 31 Forklifts and Excavators
Cheonan City in Chungnam Province announced on the 18th that it will provide an additional 1.2 billion KRW to support the early scrapping of old diesel vehicles with emission grade 4 or higher and construction machinery.
Accordingly, through the third round of the early scrapping support project for old diesel vehicles, the city will accept additional applications for a total of 343 vehicles, including 312 grade 4 diesel vehicles and 31 forklifts or excavators.
Eligible applicants are emission grade 4 diesel vehicles that are registered in Cheonan as of the application date and have been registered in the air management area or Cheonan for at least six months.
Also eligible are on-road type 3 construction machines manufactured under emission standards applied before August 31, 2009, and forklifts or excavators manufactured under emission standards applied before December 31, 2004.
Subsidies are based on the vehicle value table calculated by the Insurance Development Institute: for grade 4 vehicles, those weighing less than 3.5 tons can receive up to 8 million KRW, those weighing 3.5 tons or more up to 100 million KRW, and forklifts or excavators up to 120 million KRW.
When scrapping a diesel vehicle under 3.5 tons and purchasing a zero-emission vehicle such as an electric or hydrogen car, an additional 500,000 KRW can be received on top of the vehicle purchase subsidy, within the maximum limit. Additional subsidies are also available when scrapping a vehicle over 3.5 tons and purchasing a used vehicle.
A city official said, "Through two rounds of applications in March and May, we supported the early scrapping of 917 old diesel vehicles," and added, "We also plan to accept applications for the early scrapping of grade 5 old diesel vehicles in the future."
