Article on Delivery to Non-Consignment Location
"When Complaining to the Company, Received Verbal Abuse and Swearing Over the Phone"
An absurd story has emerged about a delivery driver who received complaints for delivering packages to a location other than the designated drop-off spot and responded with abusive language and insults.
On the 16th, JTBC's 'Case Officer' reported the story of informant A, who lives on the third floor of a three-story house. A said, "The house I live in has a structure where you go up the stairs, pass through a corridor, and the front door is inside a hallway without a ceiling." He continued, "Because I thought packages left in the corridor could be lost, I always designated the delivery drop-off location as 'in front of the front door.'"
The problem arose last year when a new delivery driver started delivering packages to A's house. Only one particular delivery driver ignored A's requests and left packages on the stairs or in the corridor instead of in front of the door. In response, A sent a message to the delivery driver saying, "Please deliver the packages in front of the door as sometimes they arrive wet." However, the delivery driver B read A's message but did not reply.
Angered, A sent complaint emails twice, in January and July this year, to the delivery company B belonged to. The delivery company repeatedly responded, "We will strengthen training and take corrective measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again." A explained, "About 10 minutes after receiving the company's response, I got a call from B," adding, "B said, 'Next time, I'll leave it inside the gate, so you carry it yourself,' and spewed abusive language like, 'You XX (a vulgar term for a woman). If you call one more time, I'll come after you and smash you up.'"
Feeling scared, A requested the customer center to suspend B's deliveries, but the request was denied. Afterwards, whenever B delivered packages to A's house, he personally changed the designated drop-off location from 'in front of the door' to 'inside the gate.'
B told the media, "(The front door and corridor) are just a few steps apart, but she kept complaining," and explained, "Since it's a detached house, going up to the third floor constitutes 'trespassing.' It's fine to leave it on the third floor; there's no obligation to leave it in front of the door. I had been accommodating her, but she made unreasonable demands." He added, "I think I insulted her out of frustration because I felt disrespected. That part is my fault," and apologized.
A delivery company official said, "According to the standard delivery terms, it is wrong for a delivery driver to arbitrarily deliver to a location without agreement," and announced that the delivery driver for that area would be replaced with someone other than B.
Netizens who heard the story reacted with comments such as, "Who would dare order delivery if they're scared," "Changing the designated drop-off location is too scary," "Malicious behavior," "I don't understand why he insisted on that spot when packages get wet if left in the corridor," and "The delivery company seems to have acted too late."
