With the Increase of Mosquitoes and Other Pests... Seocho-gu Launches 'Pest Task Force' 'Seocho Pest Control Task Force Launch Ceremony' scene. Provided by Seocho-gu.

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) has launched the "Pest Special Task Force" to alleviate residents' inconveniences caused by pests in blind spots during the summer season, and it has started activities this month. Seocho-gu announced on the 14th that the "Pest Special Task Force," composed of residents, held its inauguration ceremony on the 11th.

The Pest Special Task Force consists of a total of 123 residents familiar with their neighborhoods, with 5 to 10 members per district. These members, ranging in age from their 20s to their 70s, conduct pest control activities more than three times a week in blind spots where pest control vehicles have difficulty accessing, such as small parks, alleyway drains, garbage accumulation sites, and residential flower beds.

They receive professional pest control training from Seocho-gu and are also provided with a modest activity allowance for their volunteer work. To enable more efficient and professional pest control activities, pest control experts visit each district to provide on-site practical training on pest control, including mosquito larva habitats, how to use sprayers, and methods for controlling pest-infested areas such as cockroaches.

The district's active involvement in operating the Pest Special Task Force is due to the recent increase in pest populations, which has heightened the need for thorough pest control. Pest control service requests have increased by more than 30% annually, with 908 cases in 2022 and 1,210 cases in 2023.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, "With the operation of the Pest Special Task Force, we expect to eliminate the blind spots in pest control that have been overlooked so far and significantly reduce residents' inconveniences."
