Dongseo University to Promote Restructuring of Undergraduate Programs Specialized in Glocal University Cultural Content Fields

The Nation's Largest Comprehensive College of Arts for Film, Media Content, and Design Set to Launch

Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) held a final report and public hearing on June 10 in the Global Room of the New Millennium Hall to discuss the “Restructuring of the Bachelor’s Program in Specialized Fields of Cultural Content for Glocal University.”

Dongseo University to Promote Restructuring of Undergraduate Programs Specialized in Glocal University Cultural Content Fields Academic Structure Reform Meeting at Dongseo University Held on the 10th.

This restructuring aims to realize Dongseo University’s goal of becoming “Asia’s No.1” in the field of cultural content and to establish a springboard for advancement through official designation in the “Glocal University 30” project.

To achieve this, a practical task force was formed, consisting mainly of professors from three colleges specializing in cultural content (Im Kwon-taek College of Film and Arts, College of Design, and College of Media Content). The restructuring plan was developed through expert advisory meetings, seminars, and multiple rounds of discussions involving both educational and industry professionals.

The report was attended by President Jang Je-guk, key university officials, and 21 working members of the “Glocal University Specialized Field Academic Restructuring Task Force.”

The main direction of the academic restructuring focuses on transitioning to a “borderless academic structure” by “breaking down barriers.” The core elements include: ▲ integration of the three specialized colleges (Im Kwon-taek College of Film and Arts, College of Design, and College of Media Content); ▲ recruitment of new students through a major-free (liberal major) system and broader admission units; ▲ organizational restructuring for a more flexible academic system; and ▲ student-centered education that guarantees students a wide range of major choices.

The tentative Arts & Design integrated college system will undergo sufficient internal consultation, simulations, advisory meetings, and preparation over the next two years, with the transition scheduled for 2027.

As a result, the (tentatively named) Arts & Design Integrated College at Dongseo University is expected to become the largest comprehensive arts college in the country, encompassing film, video, media content, and design fields. The structure will also facilitate the creation of new majors, minors, and micro-majors suited to the times, and provide students with a flexible system for career planning, exploration, and major selection.

Additionally, the report presented an educational innovation model to enhance Dongseo University’s unique competitiveness in cultural content, a virtuous cycle system for financial independence linked to profit-generating industry-academic cooperation, and an R&BD cluster-based industry-academic research innovation model to strengthen research capabilities.

A global innovation model was also proposed to attract international students for long-term study and to enhance the university’s global reputation. Other topics addressed included strategies for advancing student management and support systems, admissions strategies, space planning, and graduate school innovation.

The importance of specialized liberal arts education in arts and design, as well as foundational courses such as AI literacy common to all colleges, was also emphasized.

Through such innovations, the university expects to secure final selection in the Glocal University project and to lead the launch of a specialized college for cultural content that will grow together with the local community.
