'19+ Show Targeting Female Audience
Some Male-Dominated Communities Say "Lacks Fairness"'
An adult musical targeting female audiences from Las Vegas, USA, recently concluded its Seoul performances at the end of last month. Meanwhile, online discussions have emerged claiming unfairness by comparing this to the cancellation of a domestic event featuring a Japanese AV (adult video) actress.
This month, on an online community, a netizen posted, "Seoul city rejected performances featuring Japanese AV actresses citing various reasons, yet the foreign male team’s strip (upper body undressing) musical 'Thunder From Down Under' was held with the venue fully booked."
The post received responses such as, "The mindset that sex viewed by men is low and bad, but sex viewed by women is culture," "Cutting electricity at the Japanese AV actress event is using administrative power to intimidate those they dislike," and "Do they mistakenly think men don’t have voting rights?"
The musical 'Thunder From Down Under' mentioned by the author is a popular show that premiered in Las Vegas in 1991 and has since been performed in the United States, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, South Africa, and other countries, reaching over 10 million cumulative viewers in more than 100 cities worldwide.
Currently on an Asia tour, the show features seven male dancers delivering dazzling performances. When it was performed in Seoul last year, all seats were sold out, and due to its popularity, it returned again this year. The performances took place over three days from the 28th to the 30th of last month at the Yes24 Live Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.
Audience members who watched the show explained, "There are various concepts like cowboys, soldiers, and police officers, and the ending inevitably involves undressing," adding, "The performers come down continuously, walk around the aisles hugging the audience, sit on knees, and perform highly provocative dances." They further said, "I was hugged multiple times and even touched their buttocks. They even let us kiss them," and described it as "a dopamine extravaganza. It was so ecstatic I was completely drained."
Some expressed disappointment that the performance was toned down compared to last year. Audience members wrote, "Why is the performance toned down only in Korea?" and "Please come again next year without lowering the intensity."
