On the 28th, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) announced that it held an on-site mediation meeting chaired by Standing Commissioner Kwon Seok-won and agreed to straighten the road alignment of the section in front of Samyong 2-ri village, Wonnam-myeon, Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, on Local Road 516. The meeting was attended by representatives of the complainants, the Director of the Chungcheongbuk-do Road Management Office, and the Director of Balanced Development Bureau of Eumseong-gun.

Local Road 516 sharply bends in a 'reverse ㄷ shape' in front of Samyong 2-ri village, Wonnam-myeon, causing frequent traffic accidents including fatal ones. Residents of Samyong 2-ri filed a collective complaint to the ACRC in February, requesting improvement of the road alignment, fearing that the risk of traffic accidents could increase.

According to the mediation plan prepared through consultations among related agencies, the Chungbuk Road Management Office will actively strive to include the road in the priority list for the mid- to long-term plan for the third phase of hazardous road structure improvement scheduled for 2027, so that the alignment can be improved.

Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, agreed to actively cooperate administratively by providing hazardous road evaluation data when requested by Chungcheongbuk-do and handling compensation work when the hazardous road structure improvement project is implemented.

Commissioner Kwon said, "Considering the number of traffic accidents, expected increase in traffic volume due to surrounding development, and the residents' need for traffic safety, it seems necessary to improve the alignment of this complaint road," adding, "The ACRC will continue to work for the safety of the public."
