Second Annual Awards with 6 Teams... Grand Prize to Dewang Team for 'Optimal Location Selection of Street Trash Bins in Gwangjin-gu'
District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho Declares "We Will Actively Reflect Excellent Data Analyses in District Administration"
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the '2024 Gwangjin-gu Big Data Analysis Contest Awards Ceremony' on the 27th.
Now in its second year, this contest was held with the purpose of accurately identifying the needs and preferences of local residents through big data analysis, reviewing various issues, and efficiently allocating resources to actively reflect them in policies.
The contest, based on free topics related to Gwangjin-gu's current issues, was open to the entire nation from April to May, receiving a total of 69 submissions. Among these, six teams that passed the final third round of judging were honored with awards: Grand Prize (1 team, 3 million KRW), Excellence Award (2 teams, 1 million KRW each), and Merit Award (3 teams, 300,000 KRW each).
The Grand Prize was awarded to the team 'Dewang' for their project titled 'Optimal Location Selection for Street Trash Bins in Gwangjin-gu.' They proposed 'new candidate sites for street trash bins, relocation, and cigarette trash bin operations' to promote a clean environment. Analyzing Gwangjin-gu, which has significantly fewer trash bins per capita compared to four other districts of similar size, they verified floating population and actual trash bin installation issues, selecting four priority installation sites that caught the judges' attention.
The award recipients who participated in the ceremony said, "We chose a topic based on aspects we found lacking when visiting Gwangjin-gu. We hope that our proposals will be usefully applied to help improve a pleasant and safe environment."
The two Excellence Award teams were ▲ Installation of public personal mobility (PM) parking lots (Parking Star) ▲ Location selection for Gwangjin-gu public childcare facilities (Dowon Gyeol-ui), and the three Merit Award teams were ▲ Prediction of illegal parking enforcement areas to secure golden time in fire accidents (War on Illegal Parking) ▲ Optimal placement of bicycle lanes (Tongsuri 4 Brothers) ▲ Optimal location selection for street trash bins (Geowi Robot).
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "I thank all participants who proposed ideas in this contest. As data-driven scientific administration becomes increasingly important, we will strive to actively incorporate the excellent projects proposed into district governance and utilize them in various ways."
The award-winning works can be viewed anytime through the Metaverse Seoul app under 'Exhibitions and Contests.'
