Busan Office of Education Holds 'Master Lecture' for Youth Under Protection at Busan Oryun School

Inviting Master Baker Kim Deokgyu for Local Skills Competition Preparation

The Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education will hold a special master class with master baker Kim Deokgyu (CEO of Kim Deokgyu Confectionery) on the 28th at Busan Oryun School (Busan Juvenile Detention Center) for 36 juvenile trainees in the baking and pastry class.

This special lecture follows last year’s master class by Lee Heungyong, CEO of Haengbokhaneun Neurimbo, and is designed to help juvenile trainees develop a sense of purpose and acquire technical qualifications as they prepare for the regional skills competition.

During the lecture, master baker Kim Deokgyu will share advice on baking and pastry techniques, know-how, and real-world experiences used in the industry, broadening the trainees’ interest and practical understanding of the field.

Kim Deokgyu began his career as a production staff member at Tongyeong Chilsung Confectionery and has since been recognized as the top artisan of Gyeongnam Province (2012), Korea’s New Intellectual (2016), and Korea’s Master Baker (2019). He has also received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award (2012) and the Minister of Employment and Labor Award for outstanding skilled technicians (2018), among other honors in the baking and pastry field.

Busan Superintendent of Education Ha Yoonsoo stated, “This master class aims to help juvenile trainees in the welfare blind spots grow into healthy members of society,” and added, “The city’s Office of Education will continue to support juvenile trainees so that they can receive systematic educational support without discrimination and successfully settle and become independent in society.”

The Busan Office of Education successfully held a master class in hair design with master Shin Hwanam (Director of Shin Hwanam Beauty Gallery) on the 18th, and will host a welding master class with Ko Yunyeol (Technical Director of Shindaeseong Enterprise) on July 3.
