Line 7 Cheongna Extension Starfield Station Construction to Start by Year-End... Target Opening in 2029

Incheon City announced on the 19th that it plans to begin construction of an additional station (tentatively named Starfield Station) on the Cheongna extension line of Seoul Subway Line 7 in December, with the station scheduled to open in the first half of 2029.

The city received bids from the Kolon Global consortium and the Dongbu Construction consortium, who participated in the construction bid briefing for the additional station the previous day, and plans to select the qualified design contractor and commence construction in December.

The additional station will be built in an area adjacent to the soon-to-be-constructed Starfield Cheongna, a 20,000-seat dome stadium, and the Cheongna Medical Complex Town. This station is expected to open about two years later than the other stations on the Line 7 Cheongna extension, which is currently under construction with a target opening at the end of 2027.

An Incheon City official stated, "We will steadily proceed with the construction of the additional Line 7 station to respond to the large-scale development demand of Cheongna International City and to improve traffic congestion."

The Cheongna extension line is being constructed over a 10.7 km section connecting Seoknam Station, the current terminus of Line 7 in Incheon, through Cheongna International City to the Airport Railroad (Cheongna International City Station), with a total of eight new stations including the transfer station to the Airport Railroad.

Once Seoul Subway Line 7 is extended to Cheongna International City Station, travel time from Cheongna to Guro in Seoul will be reduced from the current 78 minutes to 42 minutes, and accessibility to Seoul is expected to improve, allowing direct travel to Gangnam without transfers.
