This year, the employees of this company picked up brush cutters in addition to awarding scholarships. After delivering the scholarships, about ten employees armed themselves with weed scissors and diligently pulled weeds around the building under the scorching sun.
On the 14th, about ten employees of B&B Steel Co., Ltd. visited Sunrin Aeyukwon in Hwanho-dong, Buk-gu, Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, to participate in an environmental cleanup volunteer activity and deliver daily necessities needed by the residents.
B&B Steel is the only company in Korea that supplies shredded scrap, a finely crushed stainless steel raw material, to POSCO. Since 2021, they have been delivering scholarships to Sunrin Aeyukwon, and this year, for the first time, they also participated in environmental cleanup volunteer work such as weed removal.
About 10 employees of B&B Steel are conducting environmental volunteer work such as weed removal at Pohang Sunrin Orphanage on the 14th.
Sunrin Aeyukwon is a child care facility established in 1952 to care for orphans in need after the Korean War, through the cooperation of the U.S. Marine Corps, missionaries, and local churches in Pohang.
Koo Kyungyeol, CEO of B&B Steel, said, "Last month, during POSCO Group's 'Global Volunteer Week,' I saw Chairman Chang Inhwa of POSCO volunteering in Pohang. I sympathized with his actions and decided to join in good deeds to help the local community as a partner supplying raw materials to POSCO."
CEO Koo added, "I hope that other partner and cooperating companies will also participate in volunteer activities, following the example of POSCO and Chairman Chang's spirit of community love."
On the 14th, B&B Steel executives and employees conducted a scholarship award ceremony and volunteer work to remove weeds at Sunrin Orphanage in Pohang.
Earlier, on May 28, POSCO Chairman Chang Inhwa and employees carried out volunteer activities to improve residential environments and care for the elderly in Jenaeri, Daesong-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang, including woodworking, painting, and electrical repairs.
Jenaeri, Daesong-myeon, is a village where residents who lived on the site of POSCO Steelworks relocated and settled during the construction of the steelworks. Currently, about 300 relocated elderly residents live there.
Chairman Chang Inhwa expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thanks to the residents who have been steadfast partners since the company's early days, we have been able to grow into the world's leading steel company. We will continue to work harder to grow and develop together with the local community."
