Securing Over 47 Million Won in Project Funds... Opportunity to Enhance Sports Capabilities
National Mokpo University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced on the 11th that its athletics department has been selected for the KUSF (Korea University Sports Federation) '2024 University Sports Team Evaluation and Support Project' for the 10th consecutive year, securing approximately 47 million KRW in project funding.
As a result, National Mokpo University has gained an opportunity to further enhance the sports capabilities of its university athletes and students.
The 'University Sports Team Evaluation and Support Project' is a program designed to improve competitiveness by providing institutional support when university sports teams face difficulties. It started in 2015 and is jointly supported by KUSF, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, with an annual funding of 6 billion KRW.
The approximately 47 million KRW allocated to National Mokpo University this time was assigned based on evaluations of factors such as the quantitative ratio of student athletes per university sports team, university budget support, selection of sports-specialized students, and competition performance.
Currently, National Mokpo University operates 39 athletes across five sports teams: Kendo, Roller Sports, Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Athletics. This project funding will be used to enhance competitiveness through training, participation in competitions, and training equipment.
Park Hee-seok, head of the athletics department, stated, “We appreciate the passion of our sports team members who balance academics and athletics. We provide a good environment through gym remodeling and rehabilitation center operations, and we promise to offer more support in the future. We hope this becomes an opportunity for student athletes to achieve their dreams.”
National Mokpo University is expected to strive to improve sports capabilities and develop its sports teams through this project. Some anticipate that this incentive will also have a positive impact on revitalizing university sports teams.
