3.8ha in Daeseo-myeon, Goheung... Healing Walking Trails with Pine Forests, Seaweed Hairs, and Rock Gardens
The 27th private garden in the Jeonnam region, ‘Goheung Urimwon,’ held its opening day event on the 31st.
At the opening day event, Go Young-min, the governor of Goheung County, and others attended to hold an unveiling ceremony and hung a nameplate made of a metal plaque to widely promote the registration of the private garden.
‘Urimwon’ is a spacious garden covering 3.8 hectares in the Daeseo-myeon area of Goheung. It features a pine forest personally cultivated by the garden owner, combined with seaweed (Gim-e-teol) and azaleas, and a rock garden beautifully arranged with small stones from the garden welcomes visitors.
The signature garden, the pine forest garden, has been carefully pruned by the garden owner since 2007 with the hope that visitors to Urimwon would find comfort. Walking along the pine forest trail provides a healing experience.
After winning the grand prize at the Beautiful Garden Contest hosted by Jeonnam Province in 2021, the garden has been continuously nurtured and was registered as a private garden this year.
Park Jong-pil, Director of the Environment and Forestry Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, “It is significant that a distinctive garden personally cultivated over a long period has been registered as a private garden of Jeonnam Province and is becoming known nationwide. We will continue to discover innovative private gardens to promote garden culture in daily life.”
Private gardens are gardens created and operated by corporations, organizations, or individuals that have outstanding aesthetic and cultural value and are registered and managed by the governor. Starting with ‘Healing Park Ssukseom Ssukseom’ in 2017, a total of 27 private gardens have been registered as of July 2024.
