Development of AI-Based Student-Centered 'Intelligent Education Support System'
Support for Student-Designed Majors such as Undeclared Majors, Customized Majors, and Extracurricular Programs
Pukyong National University (President Jang Youngsoo) has completed the development of a student-centered intelligent education support system based on AI, called 'Pukyong-i, PukyongAI'.
This system, which began operation this month, utilizes on-campus data-driven AI and big data technology to maximize students' self-directed learning effectiveness by providing personalized curriculum and extracurricular search and recommendation services.
With the recent expansion of various systems and programs such as major-free admissions, student-designed majors, and extracurricular activities in universities, the university is proactively addressing challenges such as student adaptation and precise student management.
Based on the analysis of various data such as individual students’ credits, grades, and competencies, this system recommends courses according to graduation requirements, similar users, and personal preferences to help students make optimal course selections. It also provides extracurricular recommendation services based on the university's six core competencies, assisting students in selecting and enrolling in programs.
In addition, the student-designed major program, where students can design their own major by integrating various disciplines and earn a degree, is effectively supported with a one-stop service for application, consulting, review, and approval, as well as personalized search and recommendation services throughout the design process.
Students admitted as major-free in 2025 can use this system to receive recommendations for courses in their desired major and complete them. They can also receive major recommendations linked to their accumulated learning experience records, such as career and aptitude test data, during their university life.
Pukyong National University has analyzed and utilized academic big data on campus and developed its own recommendation algorithm to provide optimal personalized information for each student. The system has also been integrated with existing academic administration information systems and extracurricular management services.
Joo Moonkap, Director of the Information and Computer Center, said, "We expect that by utilizing this system, we can provide optimal information to guide students from admission to graduation, enabling them to make proactive decisions for their careers."
