On the 27th, Chu Mi-ae, the elected member of the Democratic Party of Korea who was being considered as a candidate for the chairperson of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee in the 22nd National Assembly, announced, "I will be active in the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly."

In a post on Facebook that day, Chu referred to Park Jung-hoon, former head of the Marine Corps investigation team (colonel), who claimed to have faced pressure from higher-ups during the investigation of the death of Marine Corporal Chae.

Chu said, "I pray for Colonel Park Jung-hoon," adding, "Truth never passes over righteous people. Even if it is slow, painful, or lonely, a single thread of truth will create a vast wave of justice."

She continued, "Let us protect Colonel Park, who has stood firmly against the silent cartel of unjust power and the filthy cauldron of greed, and the people who seek the truth," pointing out, "The death of Marine Chae was not an accidental incident but a result of the corrupt and dictatorial power’s environment mercilessly abandoning a young life."

Chu also criticized, "The absurd incident where a soldier in the 12th Division died after receiving punishment despite showing signs of health problems was also caused by the pathological environment of this administration," emphasizing, "We must break the chain of ignorance, stupidity, and immorality."

Previously, some within the party argued that Chu should take the position of chairperson of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee to strongly push forward reform legislation in the 22nd National Assembly.
