Maniker F&G, First Export of Samgyetang to the EU

Maniker F&G, First Export of Samgyetang to the EU

Maniker F&G announced on the 23rd that it held a ceremony on the 9th at Busan Port Coastal Passenger Terminal to commemorate the first export of Samgyetang to the European Union (EU). This achievement is said to be highly significant as it was accomplished through close collaboration and communication between the government and industry to overcome stringent overseas regulations.

Maniker F&G succeeded in exporting Samgyetang to the United States for the first time in Korea in 2014, and after 10 years, it has now succeeded in its first export to the EU. Maniker F&G's Samgyetang has shown annual growth in global markets such as the United States, Canada, and Japan, raising expectations for its success in the European market as well. Additionally, Maniker F&G achieved its highest sales since its establishment last year, and further sales growth is expected with this Samgyetang export.

The initial shipment on this day is scheduled to be sold through local wholesale and retail distribution channels secured via Germany's largest Korean food distribution partner, as well as sales networks in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Austria, Spain, Italy, and other countries.

The success of this EU export is known to have been greatly supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The government began the first quarantine and hygiene negotiations with the EU in 1996 for the export of heat-treated poultry meat and finalized the negotiations at the end of last year, unlocking the European market after 28 years.

Following the United States and Canada, the export path for Samgyetang has opened to the long-awaited European Union (EU), and exports of heat-treated poultry products such as frozen chicken are also planned. Starting with domestically produced Samgyetang, it is expected that pioneering new markets for foods using chicken as a raw material will become much easier.

Maniker F&G plans additional exports depending on local responses to Samgyetang, and it is also known to be negotiating exports of its flagship brand, the Basasak series, following Samgyetang.

Choi Jang-ho, CEO of Maniker F&G, stated, “This EU export, achieved through organic cooperation between government agencies and companies, will help expand and diversify overseas markets,” adding, “We will gradually expand export items not only for Samgyetang but also for frozen chicken and others.”
