Kukon to Pursue Merger with VDP Labs... Securing Healthcare Data

Plans to Attract New Customers in Medical Institutions and Healthcare Companies

Data platform company Kukon announced on the 22nd that it will pursue a merger with its subsidiary VDP Labs in July to expand its data service sector into the digital healthcare field.

VDP Labs is a digital healthcare platform company that collects and provides healthcare data from various external organizations. It also offers content related to mental health. In 2022, it conducted a wellness service demonstration project for Seoul youth.

Through this merger, Kukon plans to secure digital healthcare data and gain a favorable position in the related market. The company aims to commercialize high-quality public and medical data in the form of application programming interfaces (APIs) to activate healthcare data distribution. By additionally securing data infrastructure linked to hospital electronic medical records (EMR), Kukon intends to attract new customers such as medical institutions, healthcare companies, and MyData operators.

This merger is evaluated to be an important foundation for creating a data-centered digital healthcare industry ecosystem. It is expected that the synergy effect will be generated by combining Kukon’s strength in data distribution capabilities with VDP Labs’ digital healthcare infrastructure.

Earlier, Kukon announced on the 7th that it would conduct a small-scale absorption merger of VDP Labs at a 1:0 ratio. Kukon owns 100% of VDP Labs’ shares and will not issue new shares in the merger. This merger is a no-capital-increase merger, so there will be no change in Kukon’s management rights or major shareholder.

Kim Jong-hyun, CEO of Kukon, said, “Through the merger with VDP Labs, we will be able to additionally secure highly usable healthcare data, which we believe will expand Kukon’s existing data business,” and added, “We will strive to become a leading company in the data field.”
