Daejeon City announced that it has selected seven sites as targets for this year's 'Daejeon-style Vacant House Improvement Project' and will begin full-scale project implementation.

The city selected three sites in Dong-gu, one in Jung-gu, one in Seo-gu, one in Yuseong-gu, and one in Daedeok-gu through a selection committee review of vacant houses applied for by autonomous districts. Most of these correspond to grade 4 vacant houses, which require urgent demolition.

The Daejeon-style Vacant House Improvement Project is a purchase-type vacant house improvement initiative aimed at resolving safety accidents, crime occurrences, landscape damage, and sanitation issues caused by vacant houses, as well as creating insufficient living infrastructure or resident convenience facilities.

The city plans to invest a total of 10 billion KRW over five years from 2023 to 2027, cooperating with autonomous districts and allocating 2 billion KRW annually.

In May, the city will allocate project funds to the autonomous districts and plans to purchase vacant houses from the second half of the year to create shared resident spaces such as rest areas and parking lots.

A city official stated, "Through the improvement of vacant houses that have long been left as eyesores in the urban center, we will create a safe and pleasant residential environment, expand the insufficient social infrastructure in the city center, and provide stable living conditions for citizens."
