Prevention of Marine Accidents During Peak Season and Promotion of Water Leisure Safety Culture
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) is stepping up safety management for water leisure activities from this month until October to prevent accidents and promote a culture of maritime safety as the peak season for water leisure begins.
According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 14th, a total of 104 water leisure accidents have occurred over the past three years, with 83 cases (80%) concentrated during the peak season (May to October).
In response, the maritime police will strengthen safety patrols focusing on vulnerable areas such as major water leisure activity sites and accident-prone waters, and will collaborate with related organizations and repair shops to conduct free inspections of powered water leisure equipment and promote safety campaigns.
Additionally, from July 15 to August, they will intensively crack down on violations of the three major unsafe practices in water leisure activities (unlicensed operation, drunk driving, and failure to wear all safety equipment). In cooperation with Mokpo City, they plan to carry out public awareness campaigns to prevent accidents and spread a culture of safety.
A representative of Mokpo Maritime Police stated, “We will do our best to create an environment where the public can enjoy water leisure activities with peace of mind and to promote a culture of maritime safety,” and urged, “Please strictly follow water leisure safety rules to prevent accidents.”
