Walking from Sinreuksa to Yeongwol Neighborhood Park to Hangang Culture Center
Section length 6.6 km... Difficulty 'Very Easy'
The Gyeonggi Dullegil ‘Yeoju Course 34’ stretches from Silleuksa Temple to Yeongwol Neighborhood Park, Geumeunmorae Camping Site, Geumeunmorae Riverside Park, and finally to the Hangang Culture Center. The section is 6.6 km long and is expected to take about 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete. The difficulty level is ‘very easy’.
At the starting point, Silleuksa Temple, try stamping the ‘Hwangpo Dotbae’ stamp. The Namhan River flowing through Yeoju was once a waterway for ferry boats and merchant ships transporting goods from the three provinces. Riding the Hwangpo Dotbae, which offers a chance to experience old culture, allows you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Namhan River and Yeoju.
Walking along the riverside from Silleuksa Temple, you can cross Yeonin Bridge next to Yeoju Bridge. On the left hill at the end of the pedestrian Yeonin Bridge stands Yeongwolru Pavilion. From Yeongwolru, you can take in a panoramic view of the Namhan River and Yeoju city. In the past, the sight of smoke rising from cooking fires across the river was considered one of the eight scenic views of Yeoju. Yeongwolru originally served as the main gate of the county office and is estimated to have been built in the late 18th century. It is a two-story pavilion with three bays on the front and two bays on the side.
Below Yeongwolru are the Yeoju Chang-ri Three-story Stone Pagoda and Hari Three-story Stone Pagoda. Both were relocated from old temple sites. The pagodas are divided into three main parts: the base platform (foundation), the main body of the pagoda, and the decorative top section. The Chang-ri Pagoda has a two-tiered base platform, while the Hari Pagoda has a single-tiered base. Both pagodas have three-story bodies and roof stones, but their top finials have disappeared. The Chang-ri Pagoda is believed to have been built after the mid-Goryeo period, and the Hari Pagoda during the mid-Goryeo period.
Walking past the well-maintained Geumeunmorae Camping Site and Geumeunmorae Riverside Park, you will see Gangcheonbo and arrive at the Hangang Culture Center. The arrival stamp features a suspension bridge. The suspension bridge, still under construction, will connect Silleuksa Temple and the Geumeunmorae Recreation Area, which are located on opposite sides of the river, allowing free movement between the tourist areas.
