LG Uplus "Purchasing Real Estate to Build Data Center in Paju"

Acquisition of Mega IDC Site Approved by Board
Construction Timing and KEPCO Approval Remain Uncertain

LG Uplus announced on the 30th that it will purchase real estate to build an Internet Data Center (IDC) in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.

An LG Uplus official stated, "The board resolution for the purchase of the IDC site was made on this day," adding, "No specific details such as the start of construction have been decided yet."

To establish a data center in the metropolitan area, approval for electricity supply must be obtained from Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Regarding this, the LG Uplus official said, "We are actively consulting with KEPCO."

LG Uplus plans to build a hyperscale IDC equivalent to the size of nine soccer fields. A hyperscale IDC refers to a large-scale data center capable of accommodating more than 100,000 servers.

The site area is approximately 73,712㎡ (22,298 pyeong). The reason for establishing the new IDC is to proactively respond to the explosively increasing demand for data centers due to the expansion of generative artificial intelligence (AI) adoption by enterprises and the acceleration of cloud transition.

LG Uplus stated, "Based on over 20 years of experience in attracting and stably operating data centers for domestic and international IT companies, we will continue to secure competitiveness in the IDC business."
