Prosecutors Raid Office of EBS Chairman Yusichun Over Corporate Card Misuse Allegations

On the 30th, the prosecution conducted a search and seizure of the office of Yoo Si-chun, the chairman of EBS.

The Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office Goyang Branch carried out the search and seizure at Yoo's office located in Janghang, Ilsandong-gu at 10 a.m. that day.

It is known that the prosecution conducted the search and seizure of office PCs and other items in the presence of Chairman Yoo and his lawyer. The search and seizure was completed in the morning.

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission handed over investigation materials to the supervisory agency, the Korea Communications Commission, and the Supreme Prosecutors' Office on the 4th of last month, alleging that Chairman Yoo violated the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act and misused business promotion expenses. Subsequently, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office transferred the case to the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office Goyang Branch for investigation.

The prosecution is examining allegations of Yoo's misuse of corporate cards. According to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, since his appointment as EBS chairman in September 2018, Yoo used corporate cards for personal purposes multiple times, and there were many cases where the locations recorded as using business promotion expenses differed from the actual locations where the corporate cards were charged.

The Korea Communications Commission held a hearing before dismissing Chairman Yoo on March 26.

Before attending the hearing, Chairman Yoo told reporters, "I did not solicit anyone. I devoted myself solely to expanding EBS's limited public finances and producing content so that young people can watch high-quality programs."

Chairman Yoo is the elder sister of Yoo Si-min, former director of the People’s Livelihoods Foundation and the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation.
