The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 30th that it has additionally selected three small and medium-sized enterprises leading carbon neutrality: Hwajin Steel, Moorim PNP, and Ajin PNP. With this, the total number of carbon neutrality leading companies has increased to 12. These companies are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70,000 tons (tCO2eq) annually through new facility investments totaling 67.8 billion KRW.
Since 2022, the government has been conducting a support project for building carbon neutrality leading plants, which provides necessary funds for process improvements, equipment replacement, and new or expanded facilities to leading companies in high carbon-emission industries. The government supports up to 40% of the national treasury subsidy rate (up to 3 billion KRW over 2 years).
On the same day, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a performance exchange meeting at the Ajou Steel Gimcheon plant site with the 12 selected companies (across 7 industries) participating in the support project. Attendees examined carbon neutrality technologies such as the plating and coating facility fusion system under construction at Ajou Steel, the process optimization automatic control system, and low-carbon oven facilities.
