Effective from next month 1st to November 30th

US medical device exemption list to expire soon

China has decided to exclude certain U.S.-made products from retaliatory tariffs imposed in response to the high tariffs under Section 301 of the U.S. trade law.

The Tariff Commission of the State Council of China announced on the 29th that the exemption from retaliatory tariffs on 124 items, including cameras and drones, will be extended for seven months from the original expiration date of the 30th, and will be applied from next month 1st to November 30th.

China also extended the same exemption measure for seven months until the 30th of this month last September.

The U.S. had earlier launched an investigation under Section 301 of the trade law in 2017 during the Donald Trump administration, citing issues such as China's intellectual property theft and forced technology transfer, and signed an administrative order on high tariffs on China in March 2019, implementing it from July of that year.

In response, China imposed retaliatory tariffs, triggering the so-called "U.S.-China trade war," but both countries exempted certain items from high tariffs and retaliation.

Meanwhile, a separate list of retaliatory tariff exemptions targeting 95 types of U.S.-made medical devices and others, which has been applied by Chinese authorities since January 1st this year, will expire on July 31st.
