"Student Safety First" Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Resolves Complaint in 20 Days

Installation of 'Field Trip Bus Stop' at Yongin Seongsan Elementary School

In front of Yongsung Elementary School in Yubang-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, a 'bus stop for experiential learning' and 'convex mirrors' that were not there until last month have been installed. On the 3rd, Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il, who attended the opening ceremony of the school's 'Dream Walk Library,' immediately instructed the relevant departments to review the matter upon parents' requests, resulting in this installation.

Until now, students at this school had to walk about 400 meters to the main road to take a bus for field experiential learning. This was because the pedestrian overpass installed between the school and Bopyeong Station was too low for buses to enter. During a meeting with the mayor, parents suggested installing a bus stop near the school for the safety and convenience of the students.

The mayor promptly instructed staff to review the issue, and the city adjusted the lanes around the Bopyeong Station and Disabled Welfare Center bus stops to install a bus stop for student experiential learning buses in front of the stop. Along with this, the city also installed two convex mirrors for student safety. On the 22nd, the mayor personally revisited the site to directly confirm the resolution of the complaints.

Principal Kang Won-ha of the school said, "I feel like a thorn under my fingernail has been removed as the mayor and city officials quickly addressed the school's difficulties," adding, "Students' experiential learning activities have become much more convenient and safer."

The mayor said, "The credit for resolving this complaint goes to the city officials who devised a good solution and took immediate action," and added, "We will continue to listen carefully to inconveniences and problems felt on the ground."
