Ulleung-gun Conducts Gatekeeper Training and Launch Ceremony

Join Efforts to Prevent Solitary Death Risk and Social Isolation

On the 19th, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk, held a gatekeeper training and launch ceremony at the Hanmaeum Hall conference room, attended by more than 20 people including members of the local social security council and honorary social welfare officers.

The main contents of the training included suicide and solitary death prevention, methods of linking welfare services, building a human safety net, restoring community awareness through strengthening communication and exchange among residents, and fostering a culture of respect for life. The lecture was conducted by Park Hyun-su, an officer at the Ulleung-gun Health and Medical Center.


Through the launch ceremony, the gatekeeper personnel pledged to strive for the prompt identification of households in crisis. The county assigned the gatekeepers the role of reporting and notifying the town and township offices and county welfare services immediately when discovering households in crisis, thereby establishing a more thorough network.


Nam Han-kwon, the county governor, encouraged the attendees at the launch ceremony and said, “Our county has a relatively high proportion of single-person and elderly households. I ask the gatekeepers to take the lead in ensuring that our society collectively pays attention and provides warm care and prompt reporting to prevent suicides or solitary deaths in the community.”
