The Integrated Veterans Hall project aims to build a new veterans hall that consolidates the aging existing halls in Jung-ri and Changjeon-dong. The city plans to invest 8.6 billion KRW to construct a veterans hall with a total floor area of 2,440㎡, consisting of one basement floor and four above-ground floors, in Gwango-dong by April 2026.

During the briefing session, the city explained the site conditions and design guidelines, including plans for parking and traffic systems, linkage with the soon-to-be-built Changjeon-dong Administrative Welfare Center, and harmony with existing buildings in the old downtown area.

Among the 15 companies that submitted applications, 11 attended the briefing. The city will proceed with the design by selecting architects who submit excellent works through the competition and signing service contracts. After the design competition judging committee reviews the submissions, the winning design will be announced on the Icheon City website on July 26.

Notably, this competition will apply the 'regional bonus system' for the first time, awarding extra points during the evaluation if applicants collaborate with locally based architectural offices to strengthen the capabilities of local firms and revitalize the regional economy.

Meanwhile, Icheon City currently has veterans halls in Jung-ri-dong and Changjeon-dong, but as these facilities are over 25 years old and have limited space, the need for an integrated veterans hall has been continuously raised.

An official from Icheon City stated, "We will make every effort to ensure the project is carried out so that a symbolic building that can inspire patriotism among Icheon citizens can be established."
