First Adoption of 'Banryeo Beach' in Ulsan: Cleanup Activity at Mokdo Beach

About 150 Volunteers Practice Environmental Conservation and ESG Management at Mokdo

On the 18th, S-OIL conducted a coastal cleanup activity to preserve the marine ecosystem near Mokdo, Onsan-eup, Ulju-gun, which was adopted as the first "Companion Beach" in the Ulsan area. About 150 employee volunteers, including 103 new employees who joined in March this year, participated in the event.

S-OIL, with the participation of over 150 volunteers, carried out coastal cleanup activities to preserve the marine ecosystem near Mokdo.

The "Companion Beach Program" is organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation. It is a beach adoption program where companies or organizations adopt specific beaches and care for them like companion animals, aiming to collect marine debris and improve the landscape. In 2023, S-OIL became the first in the Ulsan area to adopt Mokdo Beach in Onsan-eup as a "Companion Beach."

Supported by the Ulsan Volunteer Center, participants in the cleanup activity collected coastal waste such as discarded plastics and fishing gear washed ashore on Mokdo Beach and nearby coastal roads. They also conducted a campaign encouraging anglers to take their fishing waste back with them.

S-OIL conducts underwater waste and sediment collection projects five times a year at ports and harbors within Ulsan, in cooperation with local marine-related organizations such as the Ulsan Coast Guard and the Ulsan branch of the Korea Marine Rescue Association, to ensure that Ulsan citizens and fishermen can live by a clean sea. On the 20th, about 100 volunteers will participate in an underwater cleanup activity at Gangyang Port in Ulsan.
