Cheon Haram, the proportional representative-elect of the Reform New Party, raised his voice on the 17th referring to the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Gangnam-gu's decision to ban the 'Adult Festival' (2024 KXF The Fashion), saying, "At some point, our society began to apply a strange standard where women's instincts are recognized as free and autonomous women's legitimate rights, while men's instincts themselves are criminalized and dismissed as vulgar and disgusting."
On the same day, Cheon posted on his Facebook, "It is common sense that men's rights should be equally respected as much as women's rights are respected. What is the problem with adults enjoying adult culture in the form of performances or festivals in spaces where only adults can enter?"
He then mentioned adult content aimed at female audiences such as the musicals The Man Alive: Choice, Wild Wild, and Mr. Show, emphasizing, "Although these performances have levels of explicitness clearly not much different from the Adult Festival, when targeted at female audiences, they are not considered problematic, but when targeted at male audiences, they are treated as indecent performances causing public disorder and sexual crime inducement, and face unreasonable pressure from local governments."
Meanwhile, on the same day, Gangnam-gu notified the ban on the 'Adult Festival' upon hearing that it was to be held in the Apgujeong cafe alley in Seoul.
The organizers reportedly changed the festival venue three times due to repeated cancellations of rental agreements. The original event was scheduled to be held at a private exhibition hall in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, but was canceled due to opposition from residents and civic groups. They then chose Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do as an alternative location, but Paju also blocked the event. When it became difficult to proceed in the Gyeonggi area, the organizers tried to move the venue to 'Askruise,' a floating pub in Jamwon Hangang Park, Seoul, but the Seoul city government sent a written notice to Askruise citing the Wire and Boat Business Act to prohibit the event and warned that if the event proceeded, they could take strong measures such as canceling the venue lease approval. After this also fell through, the organizers announced on their official Instagram the day before that they would move the festival venue to the Apgujeong cafe alley area.
