"Reviewing Support for Workforce Recruitment up to General Hospitals"
The government will provide wage support for newly hired emergency medical personnel at tertiary hospitals and public medical institutions.
On the 17th, the Ministry of Health and Welfare held the 34th meeting of the Central Accident Response Headquarters for the Doctors' Collective Action, chaired by Minister Cho Kyu-hong, to review the status of emergency medical system operations and the doctors' collective action.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare is operating an emergency medical system in response to the departure of residents and continues to provide personnel support to medical institutions to maintain this system smoothly.
According to the Ministry, so far, the wage support targets include 38 tertiary hospitals (80.9% of the total 47) and 37 public medical institutions, totaling 75 institutions.
These medical institutions have newly hired 591 doctors and 878 nurses, and the government plans to allocate the budget designated for wages to each institution by the 19th of this month.
In the future, the government plans to consider expanding the support targets to include general hospitals with a large number of residents to support personnel recruitment.
Minister Cho Kyu-hong stated, "The government will continue to thoroughly operate the emergency medical system focused on severe and emergency cases to protect the lives and health of the people, and will spare no necessary support to ensure that medical staff such as doctors and nurses on the front lines do not become exhausted."
The Central Accident Response Headquarters also checked the status of emergency medical system operations on the same day.
As of the 16th, the number of general inpatients at tertiary hospitals was 23,554, an increase of 12.8% compared to the average of the previous week. Including tertiary hospitals, the total number of inpatients at all general hospitals was 89,000, an increase of 6.5% compared to the previous week. The number of intensive care unit inpatients at tertiary hospitals was 2,880, up 2.2% from the previous week, and the total number at all general hospitals including tertiary hospitals was 7,093, up 1% from the previous week.
Among 408 emergency rooms, 395 (97%) are operating without bed reductions, and as of the 15th, the number of severe and emergency patients in emergency rooms increased by 9.7% compared to the weekly average.
As of the 16th, 15 regional emergency medical centers display treatment restriction messages for some of the 27 severe and emergency diseases.
