Official Launch of the '2024 Gangnam Festival Organizing Committee'

Festival Curating Gangnam's Cultural Tourism Resources Enjoyed by 630,000 Visitors Last Year... This Year, Main Stage Focuses on Key Programs... Committee of 30 Experts, Partners, and Officials Formed, with Director Park Kal-lin Appointed as General Director

Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) officially launched the '2024 Gangnam Festival Organizing Committee' at the district office on the 15th.

The Gangnam Festival, held from October 5 to 9 last year, featured six carefully selected programs showcasing Gangnam's representative cultural tourism resources: ▲Opening Ceremony ▲Gangnam Fashion Festa ▲Maru Park Green Concert ▲Yeongdong-daero K-POP Concert ▲K-Culture Stage with Gourmet Travel ▲International Peace Marathon. As a result, a total of 630,000 people, including online viewers, attended the festival. It was selected as one of the 'Top 100 K-Culture Tourism Events' to shine during the 2023-2024 Visit Korea Year by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and won the '12th Korea Festival Content Award' in 2024.

Building on these achievements, the district plans to newly design the 2024 Gangnam Festival. The main stage will be organized to concentrate the previously dispersed major programs, and busking, exhibitions, and experience spaces will be created throughout Gangnam-gu to foster a festive atmosphere across the entire city.

In line with this festival direction, the Organizing Committee consists of a total of 30 members: 24 appointed members including Chairperson Lee Sang-bong and experts in various festival fields and heads of cooperating organizations, and 6 ex officio members including the Gangnam District Mayor. They will be active until October and provide advisory roles throughout the festival.

Furthermore, prior to the committee's launch, the district appointed performance director Park Kal-lin as the general director of the 2024 Gangnam Festival in February. Director Park, who has led the growth of domestic musicals since the 1995 original musical 'Myeongseong Hwanghu,' plans to newly direct this Gangnam Festival based on her experience and skills in directing various genres such as musicals, fusion gugak (traditional Korean music), and non-verbal performances.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “The Gangnam Festival is a global urban festival that can only be enjoyed in Gangnam, Korea’s representative city, and is newly planned every year. We will prepare to make it a more innovative and differentiated festival through the appointment of a capable general director and the solid operation of the Organizing Committee.”
