Memorial Ceremony for Dr. Cho Kwangwoon, Founder of Kwangwoon Academy, to Be Held on the 19th

Kwangwoon University announced on the 15th that the 44th memorial service for Dr. Jo Kwang-woon will be held on the 19th.

At the 43rd memorial service for Dr. Jo Gwang-woon held on April 20 last year in Hwado, Cho Sun-young, Chairman of the Kwangwoon Foundation, delivered a memorial address.

The memorial service for Dr. Jo Kwang-woon, founder of the Kwangwoon Academy Foundation, will take place at 11 a.m. on the 19th at the founder's burial site in Wolgye-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul.

The memorial service will be hosted by Jeong Seok-jae, Director of Planning at Kwangwoon University, and will proceed in the following order: ▲Opening remarks (Jeong Seok-jae, Director of Planning, Kwangwoon University) ▲Introduction of the deceased's biography (Jo Soo-young, student of the International Studies Department, Kwangwoon University) ▲Memorial speeches (Jo Sun-young, Chairperson of the Kwangwoon Academy Foundation, Kim Do-bong, Principal of Kwangwoon Artificial Intelligence High School, Kim Min-su, President of the Kwangwoon University Alumni Association) ▲Flower offering and silent tribute (all attendees).

Dr. Jo is recognized as the founder of Kwangwoon Academy, the predecessor of Kwangwoon University, which pioneered the establishment of the first Department of Electronic Engineering in Korea and led the development of ICT technology in the country. In 1934, he established the Joseon Wireless Training Center, sowing the seeds of national education.

After liberation, Dr. Jo founded the Kwangwoon Academy based on the Joseon Wireless Training Center, and in recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Order of Civil Merit, Dongbaek Medal, and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Hanyang University.
