Lee appeared at around 10:21 a.m. at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 34 (Presiding Judge Han Seong-jin) for a trial on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.
When reporters asked questions such as "What do you think about the criticism that although you were elected, judicial risks remain?", "What is your view on the possibility of losing your parliamentary seat during your term?", and "Will you attend all future trials without fail?", Lee did not respond and headed into the courtroom.
Lee was indicted on charges including making false statements by saying in several broadcast interviews in December 2021, when he was the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, that he "did not know" Kim Moon-gi, the head of Development Division 1 at Seongnam Urban Development Corporation. During the trial on this day, witness examination was conducted for Jung Ba-ul, chairman of Asia Developer and a key figure in the 'Baekhyeon-dong development special favor suspicion' case.
