Kim Jeongmyeong of the People Power Party received 8.48%, Kim Jooeop of the Progressive Party 6.03%, and Jang Kyungsoo, an independent candidate, 1.77%.

Jung Junho, the elected candidate, was known as a prodigy who scored a perfect score on the College Scholastic Ability Test and entered Seoul National University’s Department of Law. He passed the bar exam in 2007, completed the 39th Judicial Research and Training Institute, and worked as a lawyer.

In the 2016 20th general election, he ran as a strategic candidate in Buk-gu (Gap), Gwangju, defeating incumbent lawmaker Kang Gijeong, but lost to Kim Kyungjin of the People’s Party.

Afterwards, he challenged for the mayor of Gwangju in the 21st general election and the 8th local elections but was eliminated in the primaries and never reached the main election.

On his fourth election attempt, Jung, who won the Democratic Party primary against incumbent lawmaker Jo Oseop, finally entered the main election after three failures and one success and has now entered the National Assembly.

Jung Junho said, “Today’s victory is the victory of the residents of Buk-gu and the citizens of Gwangju,” adding, “I will never forget the earnest wishes and expectations of the residents, and as the only young elected member from Honam, I will provide answers to the problems faced by the region and the challenges confronting the Republic of Korea with drive and breakthrough power.”

He continued, “As promised, I will double the value of Buk-gu. I will revive the declining commercial districts and create a vibrant Buk-gu bustling with young people,” and promised, “I will drastically improve the frustrating traffic environment to make Buk-gu convenient and pleasant.”

He added, “I will restore the presence of Honam politics and accurately and confidently convey the voices of the region to the central government to reestablish the status of Honam politics,” emphasizing, “I will show a new model of balanced and strong Honam politics by securing practical benefits that the region rightfully deserves, rather than politics biased by ideology.”

He also stated, “To achieve sustainable political innovation, I will expand opportunities for youth political participation so that young people can decide on youth issues,” and revealed, “I will establish systems such as academies to nurture new young political talents so that the second and third Jung Junho can emerge.”

Furthermore, he said, “I will stop the reckless actions of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and become the catalyst for regime change,” adding, “I will devote all my capabilities to revive the livelihoods pushed to the brink, restore democracy trampled by the prosecutorial dictatorship regime, and definitely achieve regime change.”

He concluded, “I will not lose my original intention and will not neglect communication,” adding, “I will serve the will of the residents and the people like the sky, protect the lives of the people, and engage in politics that gives hope.”
