Lee Jae-myung, 8th Intense Focus on 'Dongjak-eul'... 'Seoul Political Barometer'

Seoul Dongjak-gu Eul Candidate Ryu Sam-young's 8th Campaign Rally
Targeting Na Kyung-won, "Key Role in Establishing the Yoon Administration"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, intensively supported the Dongjak-gu Eul electoral district in Seoul for the eighth time, two days before the general election. As the Democratic Party focused its efforts on this district, which it considers a 'barometer' of the overall Seoul political landscape, it strongly checked Na Kyung-won, the candidate from the People Power Party.

On the morning of the 8th, Lee visited Namseong Four Seasons Market in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, to campaign in support of candidate Ryu Sam-young. Lee said, "Candidate Na Kyung-won played a key role in the launch of the Yoon Seok-youl administration," adding, "We must hold this administration accountable for its failures over the past two years."

Since the 12th of last month until this day, Lee has supported the Dongjak-gu Eul campaign eight times, including remote support via YouTube. This is because the opposition candidate is Na Kyung-won, and the Democratic Party regards this district as a key battleground. Although it was considered a disadvantaged area in the early stages of the election, the mood has reversed as the final phase approaches, according to the Democratic Party's campaign headquarters. Han Byung-do, head of the Democratic Party's strategy headquarters, said on CBS Radio that "Dongjak-gu Eul is a barometer of the entire Seoul political landscape, and if we win here, we expect to win the Seoul election."

Targeting candidate Na, Lee raised his voice, saying, "You complain, 'Why come to Dongjak-gu Eul when you should go to Incheon Gyeyang-gu Eul?' but the district is not important; the lives and fate of the people are more important," adding, "We must hold those who do wrong accountable, reward those who do well, and apply clear rewards and punishments so that the people's representatives will work loyally for their constituents."

Regarding the government and ruling party, he reiterated the call for judgment, saying, "Our owners must strictly hold accountable those who have used the power and taxes given by the people for private gain, ruined the country's economy, endangered peace, and destroyed democracy in this country."

He particularly criticized, "Usually, the ruling power that takes control of the state proposes 'Let's make the country like this' or 'Let's do this,' but this administration has nothing to propose," adding, "All they do is raids, oppression, targeting people, and rejecting so many laws passed by the National Assembly. Have you ever seen such a government?"

On the same day, excluding his own district, Lee toured seven key battleground districts in Seoul in a clockwise direction, starting with Dongjak-gu Eul, then Yeongdeungpo-gu Eul, Dongdaemun-gu Gap, Jongno-gu, Jung-gu Seongdong-gu Eul, Seodaemun-gu Gap, and Yangcheon-gu Gap. In the last general election, the Democratic Party planted its flag in all these areas, but as some districts have shown tight races, they are concentrating their efforts in the final phase.

During the enumeration of nationwide battleground districts, Lee mentioned 'Jinju-si Gap, Gyeongnam,' hinting at the possibility of missing a scheduled trial on the 9th. He said, "I'm considering not going to the trial tomorrow and going there instead," adding, "Candidate Gal Sang-don is competing against Park Dae-chul (People Power Party) there, and since it's a close race, please call Jinju."

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party plans to hold its final intensive campaign rally in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, which it regards as a symbolic district for the 'judgment of the administration,' on the day before the general election, the 9th.
