Notice of Whopper Sales Ending on Homepage
Last Sales for One Week
No Mention of Discontinuation Range Among About 10 Whopper Varieties
Burger King Official "Organizing Official Position"
Burger King's signature hamburger, the 'Whopper,' will be discontinued.
On the 8th, Burger King announced on its website that "Whopper sales will end on April 14 after 40 years." Burger King expressed gratitude to "everyone who has loved the Whopper" and encouraged customers to "enjoy the last Whopper during the remaining week."
The Whopper is Burger King's flagship menu item, developed by founder James McLamore in 1957. Although its components are simple?bun, beef patty, ketchup, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles?it is known for its generous ingredients and is considered a representative large hamburger in Korea. It was released about 10 years before McDonald's Big Mac.
The Whopper lineup includes around 10 varieties such as the basic Whopper, Cheese Whopper, and Whopper Junior. Burger King did not specify the scope of the discontinuation.
In communities and forums, there is speculation that since the Whopper is a basic hamburger, Burger King might only change the name or price and release a similar product.
A Burger King representative stated, "We are currently organizing an official position regarding the Whopper discontinuation."
However, the discontinuation does not appear to be due to poor sales. BKR, the operator of Burger King, reported an operating profit of 23.9 billion KRW last year, tripling from 7.8 billion KRW the previous year.
