Over 500 Participants in 2km/4km Round-Trip Course from Jungnangcheon 1st Sports Park to Jangan Bridge
People with and without Disabilities Complete Together... Hoping for Improved Awareness of Disabilities
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) held the "Turtle Marathon" on the morning of the 31st, the second day of the Spring Flower Festival, to raise awareness about disabilities and to create a festival that everyone can enjoy together.
Organized by the Turtle Marathon Promotion Committee (Chairman Juyeon Hwang) and sponsored by ▲Social Cooperative Wooridaon ▲Samyuk Foundation ▲Jeonnong Bethel Church ▲Dong-A Pharmaceutical, the event
featured a 4km course (with a 2km half course also available) starting from Jungnangcheon 1st Sports Park, passing Jang-an Bridge, and returning to the starting point. About 200 people with disabilities, along with families and volunteers totaling around 300 participants, enjoyed walking together without competition or timing, fully embracing the spring atmosphere.
Some participants prepared guide ropes or were accompanied by guide dogs and guide runners. The completion time limit was 1 hour and 30 minutes, and those who did not finish within the time limit were safely escorted back to the starting point with the help of staff.
Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, "I hope today's event helps improve social awareness of disabilities and fosters a culture where people with and without disabilities live together with mutual consideration."
