Conducted in Preparation for Thawing and Rainy Seasons
Targeting 59 Urgently Needing Maintenance Sites
Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is undertaking a comprehensive maintenance of river facilities in preparation for the thawing and rainy seasons. The maintenance targets include sediment accumulated in the rivers, river embankments, and revetments that have deteriorated in function or are damaged.
In particular, based on recent inspections of local rivers, urgent maintenance will be prioritized at 59 locations. At 38 sites including Yangcheon in Sinan-myeon, maintenance will be carried out to remove sediment and obstructive trees that hinder water flow within the rivers.
Additionally, with a total project budget of over 1.1 billion KRW, maintenance will be conducted on 5 revetment sites, 11 river signposts, and 5 river sluice gates, covering 39 local rivers and 20 small rivers.
Sancheong-gun expects that once the natural disaster risk improvement district maintenance project, which has been underway since 2022, is completed by the end of June, flooding damage on National Road 20 at the entrance of Soridang Village in Baegun-ri, Danseong-myeon, will be resolved.
Furthermore, by accelerating project implementation and promptly executing the budget, the county aims to revitalize the local economy while perfectly preventing disasters through dredging of river sediments before the rainy season.
A county official stated, “River maintenance and disaster prevention projects are crucial as they are directly linked to the precious lives and property of local residents,” adding, “We will carry out these projects with special attention to contribute to improving the quality of life for residents and revitalizing the local economy.”
