Challenge for 3 Consecutive Wins at Houston Open
2 Wins This Year in 7 Tournaments, 6 Top 10 Finishes
2021 Course Record 8 Under 62 at This Event
The momentum of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) is fierce.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is aiming for his third consecutive victory at the Texas Children's Houston Open.
On the 28th (local time), he will challenge for the title at the PGA Tour Texas Children's Houston Open (total prize money $9.1 million) held at Memorial Park Golf Course (par 70, 7,435 yards) in Houston, Texas, USA. He aims to surpass the record of winning three consecutive tournaments. This tournament, which was held in the fall until 2022, has returned to a spring event for the first time in six years since the 2018 tournament. It was not held last year due to the PGA Tour's transition to a single-year format.
Scheffler's early-season form is impressive. He secured his first win of the season at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the 11th and followed it up with a second consecutive victory at The Players Championship, known as the "fifth major," a week later. This marks his eighth PGA Tour win. In the seven tournaments he has played this year, he has finished in the top 10 six times, including two wins. His worst result was a tie for 17th at the American Express in January.
He is also breaking prize money records. He surpassed $50 million ($53,504,729) in career earnings in just 113 events, the fewest in PGA Tour history. He earned $8.5 million from the Arnold Palmer Invitational ($4 million) and The Players Championship ($4.5 million). He also has a good record at this tournament, setting a course record with an 8-under 62 in 2021. He finished tied for second that year.
Wyndham Clark (USA), who finished runner-up two weeks in a row behind Scheffler, will seek redemption. South Korea will be represented by Kim Si-woo, Lee Kyung-hoon, Kim Sung-hyun, and Kang Sung-hoon. Kim Si-woo and Lee Kyung-hoon were ranked 6th and 11th respectively in the tournament power rankings selected by PGA.com. Kim Si-woo finished tied for 6th at The Players Championship this year. Lee Kyung-hoon performed well recently, finishing tied for 4th at the Cognizant Classic on the 5th and tied for 9th at last week's Valspar Championship.
