The Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam will conduct a 'Visiting Free Inspection Service for Powered Water Leisure Equipment' on April 6 at the Jinhae Marine Leisure Sports Center slipway.
According to Changwon Maritime Police, from March to July is the season of dense fog, during which visibility at sea drops below 1 km, greatly increasing the risk of leisure equipment accidents such as collisions and capsizing.
There are cases of marine accidents caused by engine failures when leisure equipment, stored on land during winter, is used during the peak season from April to October.
Changwon Maritime Police stated that they provide free inspections to reduce marine accidents and raise safety awareness among leisure activity participants.
Changwon Maritime Police explained that out of a total of 155 water leisure equipment accidents in the jurisdiction, 125 cases, or 80%, were drifting accidents.
Since drifting accidents mostly occur due to engine failure or fuel depletion, they advised that thorough personal equipment management and regular inspections of the equipment are essential.
A representative from Changwon Maritime Police said, “Most drifting accidents involving powered water leisure equipment occur due to negligence in equipment inspection, and there is a high risk of secondary accidents such as collisions, capsizing, and grounding, so special attention must be paid to equipment inspection.”
They added, “Through the free inspection service, we hope users become familiar with equipment management methods and prevent accidents to enjoy safe water leisure activities.”
Reservations for the Changwon Maritime Police powered water leisure equipment free inspection can be made by contacting the Water Leisure Division at the Changwon Maritime Police Station.
