The police investigating current and former executives of the Korean Medical Association (KMA) have confirmed that one more person related to the case has been booked. It is also known that a prime suspect has been identified in connection with the incident in which the list of public health doctors (Gongboi) was leaked on an online community.
On the 25th, Jo Ji-ho, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, stated at a press briefing, "One member of the Gangwon Medical Association was additionally booked on the 18th on charges of obstruction of business." The Gangwon Medical Association is currently chaired by Kim Taek-woo, the emergency committee chairman of the KMA.
This is the first time an additional person has been booked since the Ministry of Health and Welfare filed a complaint with the police on the 27th of last month against five current and former KMA executives, including Chairman Kim, on charges of inciting the collective resignation of residents opposing the increase in medical school admissions (violations of the Medical Service Act, obstruction of business, instigation, and aiding and abetting).
The representative of the medical community 'MediStaff' will also be summoned by the police this afternoon. Commissioner Jo said, "During the investigation, the operator and staff of MediStaff were booked on charges of obstructing the lawful execution of warrants," adding, "We plan to confirm necessary details through the summons investigation." It is also known that the MediStaff representative holds a medical license.
Furthermore, regarding the suspicion that the list of public health doctors dispatched to tertiary hospitals to fill the medical gap after the collective resignation of residents was leaked, a suspect has been identified. This suspect is also reported to hold a medical license. Commissioner Jo explained, "We will summon the individual to verify the facts," adding, "The schedule needs to be coordinated."
Meanwhile, the police are tracking the author of an internet post threatening a stabbing at a girls' high school in Gangdong-gu, Seoul. Commissioner Jo emphasized, "We will prioritize investigating terror threat posts targeting the general public."
