Cultural Heritage Administration Improves Exhibition and Viewing Environment at Uzbekistan Afrosiyob Museum

The Cultural Heritage Administration and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation announced on the 14th that they have improved the exhibition and viewing environment of the Afrosiyob Museum in Uzbekistan. This facility is located in Samarkand, a representative historical and cultural heritage site of Uzbekistan. It exhibits palace murals depicting the Goguryeo delegation attending the enthronement ceremony of King Varhuman in the 7th century.

As part of the international development cooperation (ODA) project for cultural heritage, the Cultural Heritage Administration has renovated the first-floor exhibition hall and the palace mural exhibition room since 2022, and replaced the roofing facilities. Additionally, they supported the National Heritage Comprehensive Management Center within the Samarkand Archaeological Research Institute with artifact preservation, analysis, and investigation equipment such as X-ray devices for artifact analysis.

A representative from the Cultural Heritage Administration expressed expectations that the center will become a specialized research institution organically conducting archaeological investigations and scientific analyses. They stated, "We will continue organic cooperation with the Uzbekistan government by supporting excavation surveys of the Qizilrtepa site within this year, developing preservation treatment manuals in Uzbek, and training preservation management professionals."
