Spring Encountered Through Joseon and Modern Literature, Paintings, and Videos

National Library of Korea Exhibition 'Spring of Literature, Bom'
Interactive Art Featuring 'Bombi' Also Presented

The National Library of Korea will hold an exhibition titled "Spring & Seeing in Literature" in the exhibition hall on the first floor of the main building from the 12th of this month until the 21st of next month. In collaboration with the National Korean Literature Museum, the exhibition introduces forty-five pieces of Joseon and modern literature, paintings, videos, and records centered on the theme of "spring." Featured works include "Sangchungok," "Dendong Eomihwajeonga," "Does Spring Come to the Stolen Fields?" and "Dosang Okjunghwa." An interactive art piece utilizing the poem "Spring Rain" by Heo Nanseolheon, No Cheonmyeong, and Park Mokwol is also presented.

The exhibition is divided into four main sections. Part 1, "Oh, Our Friends, Let's Go Play Hwajeon," introduces works from the Joseon era that enjoy the beauty of spring in fields and mountains. Part 2, "Does Spring Come to the Stolen Fields?" shows how modern literature began with the sorrow of colonization. Part 3, "The Fragrant and Pungent Scent," features the story of Chunhyang and Lee Mongryong, which began on the Dano Festival. Part 4, "Spring is Like a Cat," exhibits poems and essays that sing of spring with a modern sensibility.

The National Library of Korea also prepared zones where visitors can see, listen to, and experience the spring of literature. There is a media art zone that visualizes "Sangchun" and "Spring Falling in the Heart" as images, and an audio zone where visitors can listen to six spring-themed poems, including Jeong Ji-yong's "Chunsul." Han Sook-hee, Acting Head of the International Exchange and Public Relations Team, said, "This is an opportunity to experience spring in a diverse and rich way through various materials," adding, "We hope it will be a time to view and fully enjoy spring from a new perspective."
