Recruitment Begins for Youth Art Club Street Performance Team and Gwanak Youth Culture Zone Operation Assistant
Active Support Plan for Youth Artists and Cultural Activities to Build Gwanak as a Special Youth Culture City
Gwanak-gu is a representative youth capital where young people make up 41% of the total population.
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has once again taken active steps this year to revitalize youth culture in the area.
The district will officially begin recruiting for the ‘Gwanak Youth Art Club Street Performances’ and ‘Gwanak Youth Culture Zone Operation’ projects from late February to early March.
The ‘Gwanak Youth Art Club Street Performances’ project aims to support street performances by young artists by utilizing idle spaces in the area and to provide residents with opportunities to enjoy cultural and artistic performances.
Last year, eight performance teams held a total of 92 performances at local landmarks such as the Byeolbitnaerincheon waterfront stage and Nakseongdae Park, attracting about 3,300 residents and receiving great responses.
This year, the district plans to recruit a total of eight youth performance teams to participate in street performances, with each team performing 12 times from April to October.
Those wishing to participate can apply by March 6. Eligibility requires teams of two or more youth members, with at least one representative residing or having living rights in Gwanak-gu.
The ‘Gwanak Youth Culture Zone Operation’ project is a public-private partnership that provides cultural programs to youth by partnering with private operators who secure cultural spaces.
Last year, 15 locations offered various programs such as professional art director experiences, creative writing workshops, and zero-waste experiences. Mainly students in their 30s and women participated, and satisfaction surveys showed an average satisfaction rate of 99.65%, indicating very high approval of the project.
This year, the district will expand by one location compared to last year, recruiting a total of 16 ‘Gwanak Youth Culture Zone’ operation spaces. The culture zone project will run from May to September, with each zone operating at least eight cultural programs.
Those wishing to participate in the youth culture zone project can apply by Thursday, March 7. Eligibility requires organizations that secure spaces in Gwanak-gu capable of accommodating at least five people.
Additionally, the district will newly launch the ‘Youth Artist Exhibition Support’ project this year to support the growth of local young artists by helping them hold exhibitions. Four young visual artists (teams) aiming to hold exhibitions will be selected and supported.
A district official said, “We hope that the Gwanak Youth Art Club Street Performances and Gwanak Youth Culture Zone Operation projects will revitalize youth cultural activities in Gwanak-gu,” adding, “We will continue to actively support the artistic activities of young artists and the cultural activities of youth.”
Detailed information about the ‘Gwanak Youth Art Club Street Performances’ and ‘Gwanak Youth Culture Zone Operation’ projects can be found in the announcements posted on the news section of the Gwanak-gu Office website.
