Hyundai Motor's New Headquarters Plan Revised, 100-Story Yongsan Tower Uncertain
"Administrative Procedures to Be Supported Quickly and Actively"
Rapid Progress Also for Sangam Lotte Mall
Regarding concerns over the repeated setbacks in the construction plans for ultra-high-rise landmark buildings in downtown Seoul, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, stated on the 1st, “We will do our best to ensure that the Sangam DMC landmark project is promptly advanced through organic cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government so that the residents’ long-standing wishes can be resolved as soon as possible.” Mapo District also said that once a developer is selected, it will swiftly and actively support administrative procedures such as urban management plan changes and building permits.
Recently, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has begun the sale of the ‘Sangam DMC Landmark Site’ in Mapo District, which has remained vacant for 20 years, accepting applications and business plans until May 28 this year, with plans to select a preferred negotiation candidate around June.
Mapo District’s expression of support stems from growing concerns among local residents about the Sangam DMC landmark development, as demand for domestic ultra-high-rise buildings has declined due to the economic downturn and soaring construction costs.
Recently, Hyundai Motor Group revised its plan to build a new 105-story headquarters in Samseong-dong, and the creation of a ‘100-story landmark’ in the Yongsan International Business District is also uncertain.
Mapo District regularly monitors the progress of the landmark project every month and encourages project advancement by frequently consulting with relevant departments of the Seoul Metropolitan Government to finalize development plans.
Meanwhile, the district is also encouraging the prompt advancement of the Sangam Lotte Mall project and has announced plans to actively request and attract the establishment of a general hospital on the site of the Western Driver’s License Test Center in Sangam-dong to improve the lagging medical environment in Mapo District.
