President Yoon: "We Will Work Hard to Revitalize Markets"
President Yoon Suk-yeol visited Seosan Dongbu Traditional Market in Chungnam on the 26th to encourage market merchants and communicate with citizens.
After the 15th Livelihood Discussion held at Seosan Airfield in Chungnam in the afternoon, President Yoon visited Seosan Dongbu Traditional Market, a representative traditional market in the northwestern region.
Seosan Dongbu Traditional Market, which first opened in 1956, has developed into the largest traditional market in the northwestern Chungnam region through facility modernization and other improvements.
According to the presidential office, the market is frequently visited by local residents due to its many stores selling seafood produced in the nearby West Coast, various foods, clothing, and more.
This is President Yoon's second visit to Seosan Dongbu Traditional Market, following his visit in February 2022 during his presidential candidacy.
President Yoon visited various stores to hear the vivid voices of merchants and also communicated with citizens visiting the market. He expressed his determination to revitalize the Chungnam regional economy for the prosperity of traditional markets and the stabilization of people’s livelihoods while listening to the merchants’ difficulties.
At a seafood store he visited first, President Yoon tasted raw pike eel and said, "I have to visit all the markets today, but I caught this here. This is the first time I have eaten such a chewy anago among the ones I have tried."

President Yoon also said, "Seosan has a lot of food," and purchased local specialties such as gamtae (edible seaweed), dried pollack, cockles, and crabs, according to Kim Soo-kyung, spokesperson for the presidential office.
At another store, while discussing seaweed farming, he asked the merchant, "Is this from Seocheon? I hope you sell a lot. I will work hard to revitalize traditional markets," making a promise.
A merchant who visited the store showed a paper with "Welcome, Mr. President, to Seosan" written on the back of a calendar to President Yoon and expressed gratitude for his visit. President Yoon responded with words of thanks and encouragement, saying, "Thank you" and "Please sell a lot."
At a store where three generations?a grandmother, her daughter and son-in-law, and grandchildren?gathered, President Yoon patted the children’s heads, bent down to their level, and took an impromptu commemorative photo with them.
President Yoon also visited a store run by an elderly person to check on their health and instructed his aides to purchase cockles and steamed corn so that the elderly merchant could finish business early and return home.
In particular, President Yoon engaged in conversation with children and teenagers who came to the market with their parents, asking about their grade level, dreams, and whether they study hard.
Until leaving the market, President Yoon responded to merchants and citizens shouting "Fighting!" by giving a thumbs-up and promised, "I will work hard to revitalize the market."
