Daejeon City announced that it will promote a support project for home food waste reduction processors starting from the 26th.
The project accepts applications from household heads residing in Daejeon and provides support covering 70% (700,000 KRW) of the purchase cost for one food waste processor per household.
The supported food waste processors are products that have obtained at least one quality certification among the group standard, environmental label, K mark, or Q mark, using treatment methods such as drying or microbial fermentation.
However, products that grind food waste and discharge it into the sewage system are excluded from support, even if they are certified.
Eligible recipients are determined based on selection criteria such as the number of household members and the duration of residence in the autonomous district. The subsidy is provided after the product is purchased with self-payment.
Last year, Daejeon City supported the installation costs of 376 home food waste processors. Through this, it was confirmed that food waste was reduced by 63.8% in each household.
Additionally, in a survey, 92.7% of the support recipients responded that they were ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with the use of the food waste processors.
The announcement of the support project can be found on the website of the relevant district office.
Park Dohyun, Director of the Environment and Greenery Bureau of Daejeon City, emphasized, “More than 70% of the total food waste generated in Daejeon comes from households,” and added, “This is why it is important to reduce the amount of food waste starting from the disposal stage in each household.”
He also said, “We ask for the citizens’ great interest and participation in reducing food waste.”
