Yeongam-gun Named 'Best Institution' for Reducing Local Tax Arrears in Jeonnam Province

Consecutive Best Institution, Collection of 1.69 Billion KRW in Carried-Over Delinquent Taxes

Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Woo Seung-hee) was selected as the best institution in Jeollanam-do's '2023 Local Tax Arrears Reduction Evaluation' on the 22nd, securing a financial incentive of 50 million KRW.

According to the county on the 25th, Yeongam-gun received the consecutive best award following the first half of last year at the '2024 Local Tax Arrears Collection Capacity Enhancement Workshop' held at Yeonggwang Healing Convention Resort.

It was selected as the best institution in the evaluation for reducing local tax arrears and received the grand prize.

Jeollanam-do evaluated 22 cities and counties based on five indicators including △local tax collection rate △increase in collection rate compared to the previous year △local tax collection scale.

Yeongam-gun implemented customized collection for defaulters using big data, impoundment of license plates of delinquent vehicles, and public auction disposal to improve the collection rate of carried-over local tax arrears.

As a result, out of 3.121 billion KRW in carried-over arrears, 1.69 billion KRW was collected, achieving a collection rate of 54.2%, earning the highest evaluation.

This year, Yeongam-gun plans to establish collection measures by type of arrears, decisively clearing cases with no repayment ability, providing payment deferral support for livelihood-type defaulters, and responding to habitual and chronic defaulters by seizing deposits and real estate, thereby realizing tax justice.

A county official said, “In keeping with the name of the best institution, we will continue fair and trustworthy local tax management to carry out tax administration that residents can empathize with.”
